Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed leaders of the West Bengal BJP unit to prioritize 28 Assembly constituencies in and around Kolkata for the upcoming crucial elections. This directive was given during a meeting on the final day of Shah’s visit to the state. The focus areas include four organizational districts, namely Kolkata (Dakshin), Kolkata (Uttar), Jadavpur, and Dum Dum.
Shah highlighted that BJP candidates faced setbacks in 26 of the 28 constituencies during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Despite this, he aims for a significant win in these constituencies in 2026, especially in areas where the party’s defeat margins were narrow in the previous elections. The meeting, held at the Science City Auditorium in Kolkata, was attended by core BJP leaders and grassroots-level organizers from the mentioned districts.
Following the organizational discussions, Shah visited the Thanthania Goddess Kali temple in north Kolkata to offer prayers. En route to the temple, state Congress members, led by Suvankar Sarkar, staged protests. However, a substantial police presence maintained order and distance between Shah’s convoy and the demonstrators. Subsequently, Shah proceeded to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport for his return to New Delhi.
