A court in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district has remanded the accused in the rape case of a government employee to judicial custody for 14 days. Namala Srinu, apprehended by Macherla town police, appeared before a judge the following day. The accused was then transferred to Gurazala sub-jail after the court’s decision.
A 32-year-old woman was viciously assaulted and raped by the perpetrator at her residence in Macherla town on April 2. The assailant reportedly subjected the victim to sexual violence at knifepoint, inflicted physical harm, and used an iron rod in a brutal manner.
The victim, employed as an attender in the Panchayat Raj Department, had relocated to Macherla from Sattenapalli after separating from her husband last year. Living with her young nephew, who was away in Sattenapalli for school holidays, she was alone during the incident.
According to police reports, the victim disclosed that the assailant entered her home under the pretext of needing water, then proceeded to restrain and assault her. The assault was discovered when her nephew, unable to reach her by phone, sought help from friends. She was found unconscious, bound, and injured.
Following the incident, the victim was hospitalized, and investigations revealed that the accused was acquainted with her. Identified as Srinivas, a daily wage laborer from Rajupalem mandal, the accused had initially connected with the victim on Instagram before establishing a close relationship.
Special police teams were deployed to apprehend the suspect, with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu urging the police to ensure justice for the victim. The accused was arrested by the police on Wednesday night and presented before the court the next day.
