In Bihar, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) recently carried out raids on properties associated with two senior government officials. The raids, spanning multiple districts including Patna, Purnea, Kishanganj, Saharsa, and Muzaffarpur, were conducted simultaneously at 12 locations. These actions were prompted by evidence suggesting that the officials possessed assets disproportionate to their known income sources.
Separate cases were registered against DSP (Kishanganj) Gautam Kumar and DRDA Director (Saharsa) Vaibhav Kumar after verification of the evidence. In the case of Gautam Kumar, assets valued at around Rs 1.94 crore, 60.27% higher than his income sources, were uncovered. Similarly, Vaibhav Kumar was found to possess assets worth approximately Rs 2.41 crore, 78.03% more than his known income. Both cases have been filed under relevant anti-corruption laws.
The raids, conducted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, involved a coordinated effort by EOU teams led by senior police officials. The ongoing operations aim to uncover further details, with findings to be disclosed upon completion of the searches. This crackdown signifies a strong stance against corruption within Bihar’s administrative framework.
