The Army has been sent to sensitive areas in Kokrajhar district, Assam, after mob violence led to two deaths and triggered arson and street clashes. Army columns conducted joint night patrols with the district administration in Karigaon and nearby areas. A flag march is planned for confidence-building, with four Army columns stationed in the district to support civil authorities in maintaining law and order.
The situation is currently under control, with additional security measures in place in the neighboring Chirang district. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the necessary arrangements for the Army’s deployment. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) was already deployed in the affected areas following the outbreak of violence.
The unrest began after a vehicle carrying three Bodo community members allegedly hit two Adivasi individuals on Mansingh Road near the Karigaon outpost. The occupants of the vehicle were reportedly attacked by locals, leading to the vehicle being set on fire. One person died on the spot, while another passed away due to injuries the next day.
