Six days after a minor girl’s mysterious death in Siliguri, North Bengal, the prime suspect, a private tutor, has been apprehended in Chennai along with another individual. The incident, which occurred in the Kulipara area of Ward No. 1, was deemed unnatural, with the tutor, Amir Ali, being implicated. His escape had incited local outrage, leading to protests and road blockades by residents demanding swift justice.
Following the arrest, Deputy Commissioner of Police Qazi Shamsuddin Ahmed stated that the prime accused, Amir Ali, was tracked down in Chennai based on information obtained during the interrogation of an individual arrested earlier. The police, upon apprehending Ali, also detained another individual named Samir Ali. Both suspects are now in custody, and authorities are committed to ensuring they face the full extent of the law.
BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh and Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb were actively involved in the aftermath of the incident. Ghosh initiated a protest, while Deb urged the police to expedite the investigation. BJP MP Raju Bista commended the police for the arrests and called for severe punishment, emphasizing the need for justice to prevail. In response, Deb criticized the BJP for politicizing the tragedy and highlighted the police’s prompt action in apprehending the main suspect.
Ghosh, addressing the media, expressed gratitude for the community’s support during the protest and announced the resumption of his election campaign. He attributed the delay in the suspect’s arrest to political affiliations. Meanwhile, Deb defended the police’s actions, emphasizing their dedication to resolving the case and ensuring justice for the victim.
