Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu commended the state’s progress in sports development since the introduction of the ‘Khelo India’ initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017-18. He lauded the state contingent’s performance at the ‘First Khelo India Tribal Games 2026’ in Raipur, where Arunachal Pradesh secured the fifth position among 30 states and Union Territories.
Khandu highlighted the state’s success in securing 11 medals, including six gold, one silver, and four bronze, emphasizing Arunachal Pradesh’s consistent rise in the sporting arena. He stressed the significance of sports in fostering discipline, leadership, and determination among the youth, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and promoting grassroots talent.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the dedication and hard work of athletes, coaches, and support staff for the state’s achievements. He praised the performance of weightlifting and athletics teams, which contributed significantly to the medal tally. Khandu also expressed confidence in Arunachal Pradesh’s continued improvement in national competitions and its strategic preparations for future events, including the 39th National Games 2027.
Reiterating the importance of sports in youth development, Khandu highlighted the Union government’s Mission Olympics 2028 and 2032 initiative, aimed at nurturing talented athletes for international competitions. He emphasized the state’s focus on adventure sports and the need for enhanced coordination among sports organizations to strengthen the sports ecosystem. The Chief Minister assured ongoing support for athletes representing Arunachal Pradesh at national and international platforms, aiming to propel them to greater success.
