The Arunachal Pradesh Police have arrested five individuals from Jammu and Kashmir for their alleged involvement in espionage activities linked to Pakistani handlers. Two more persons were recently apprehended in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir and brought to Arunachal Pradesh. The arrested individuals, Aijaz Ahmed Bhat and Bashir Ahmad Ganai, are currently in police custody in Itanagar.
With these latest arrests, the total number of persons detained in the espionage case has reached five. The accused were reportedly collecting sensitive information in Arunachal Pradesh and sharing it with their Pakistani handlers during their visits to different parts of the state. According to a senior police official, the spy ring operating from Arunachal Pradesh included the five arrested individuals.
The operation, led by Itanagar Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar with coordination from intelligence agencies, has resulted in ongoing interrogations of the arrested persons by senior police and intelligence officials. Further arrests will be based on the investigation’s outcomes. The Arunachal Pradesh Police have advised the public to ensure proper police verification before allowing individuals to stay in their homes on a rental or other basis.
