Veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party government for allegedly ignoring important universities for the differently-abled, suggesting political bias as the cause. In his digital series ‘Intezaar Shastra’, Gehlot questioned the impact of political bias on institutions meant to empower the differently-abled, citing concerns over delays in initiatives like Baba Amte Divyang University in Jaipur and Mahatma Gandhi Divyang University in Jodhpur.
Despite the appointment of experienced Vice-Chancellors, Dr. Devswaroop and Kusum Lata Bhandari, these universities are not fully operational. Baba Amte Divyang University in Jaipur is reportedly functioning in just two rooms within Shiksha Sankul, with no admissions conducted yet, raising doubts about its effectiveness. Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi Divyang University in Jodhpur is still without a dedicated campus, leaving its future uncertain.
Ashok Gehlot expressed his concerns on social media, accusing the BJP government of jeopardizing the rights of the disabled by stalling these projects. He highlighted the limited progress in Jaipur and the standstill situation in Jodhpur, questioning the government’s priorities and urging for accountability in ensuring the welfare of specially-abled individuals.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, on the other hand, criticized the Congress party for its past actions while emphasizing his government’s accomplishments. Sharma recounted an incident involving a senior Congress leader’s foot march against his own government and highlighted his administration’s efforts to combat corruption and malpractices. He also took a dig at the Congress’s leadership, accusing them of promoting nepotism and internal conflicts that weaken the party’s credibility.
