Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the government’s goal to uplift 40 lakh women to ‘lakhpati’ status in the state. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to empower women economically through sustained livelihood assistance. Sarma emphasized that women’s financial independence is crucial for family stability and the overall economic progress of Assam.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of empowering women as a core element of the state government’s development agenda. He mentioned that the BJP government is committed to supporting women in Assam to achieve financial prosperity through structured aid, financial backing, and skill enhancement programs. Sarma stressed the importance of women’s self-sufficiency for the state’s economic growth.
Sarma praised the success of various government schemes like Orunodoi and the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission in enabling thousands of women to generate sustainable incomes. The distribution of cheques to women entrepreneurs aims to offer direct financial assistance for expanding their businesses and enhancing household revenues. The government’s focus is on ensuring transparency and prompt delivery of benefits to deserving recipients.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s efforts to establish an environment where women are not solely reliant on subsidies but are encouraged to actively contribute to the economy. Sarma emphasized empowerment over charity and urged women beneficiaries to utilize the financial aid effectively. He assured continued government support through training, market connections, and access to credit facilities.
Senior officials from the district administration, public representatives, and numerous women from Self-Help Groups attended the cheque distribution event.
