Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress for involving popular singer Zubeen Garg in electoral politics, calling it a desperate tactic. Sarma accused the Congress of using Zubeen Garg’s image at polling booths to sway voters, indicating the party’s declining support. He expressed concern over Congress leaders focusing mainly on areas associated with Zubeen Garg, suggesting a limited political reach.
Sarma warned that politicizing a cultural figure like Zubeen Garg could harm the Congress in the elections. He emphasized the people’s strong reaction to such actions and reiterated his confidence in the BJP-led alliance’s victory. The Chief Minister praised the high voter turnout in the ongoing Assembly elections, especially among Hindu and indigenous communities, as a positive sign of commitment to democracy.
Sarma highlighted the increased participation of local and indigenous voters, viewing it as a positive development that strengthens democracy. He noted the overall rise in voter turnout as a positive indicator of public awareness and democratic engagement. Sarma expressed optimism about the BJP-led alliance’s performance, anticipating over 90 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly based on voter response across constituencies.
