Amid a political controversy, Congress leader Pawan Khera accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife of holding foreign passports. The Chief Minister and his family strongly denied these allegations. Uttarakhand Congress President Ganesh Godiyal criticized Sarma’s language, calling for him to address the accusations.
Godiyal emphasized Sarma’s responsibility to clear his name and prove his innocence to the public. He suggested that Sarma’s rhetoric aligns closely with the BJP’s ideology, hinting at a potential political shift. Congress Media In-charge Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu reiterated the claims of multiple foreign passports held by Sarma’s wife.
Balmuchu highlighted the alleged possession of passports from UAE, Antigua and Barbuda, and Egypt by Sarma’s wife. He questioned the motives behind these allegations, insinuating a political agenda. Congress leader Riniki Bhuyan Sarma raised doubts about the citizenship status of Sarma’s wife, adding fuel to the ongoing controversy.
The Assam Police visited Khera’s residence following an FIR lodged by Sarma’s wife over the accusations. Congress MP Imran Masood emphasized the importance of documentary evidence in the matter. Meanwhile, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika highlighted CM Sarma’s popularity among women voters ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections on April 9.
