The Assam government has taken swift action by suspending five LPG distributors across the state due to irregularities in distribution practices and violations of compliance norms. This move, part of an intensified monitoring exercise in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and oil marketing companies, aims to ensure fuel supply security amidst the current geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The suspended distributors include B.M. Gas Service in Tezpur, Biswanath Gas Distributor in Biswanath Charali, Gadadhar Gas Service in Dhubri, K.A. Indane Gramin Vitrak in Howly (Barpeta), and Prakash Indane Agency in Hojai.
Authorities have halted LPG supplies to these agencies and suspended further allocations through the Supply Planning and Distribution (SPD) system until further notice. Consumers previously linked to these distributors have been reassigned to alternative agencies to guarantee uninterrupted cooking gas supply. This action underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing compliance and preventing malpractice in essential commodities distribution, with immediate measures taken upon identifying irregularities during inspections.
Assuring the public of adequate LPG availability, the state government has confirmed no shortages for domestic consumers, with commercial LPG supply increased from 60% to 70% following the state’s adherence to reform criteria. The government reiterated its zero-tolerance approach and indicated that additional steps will be based on ongoing reviews. Continuous monitoring mechanisms are in place to protect consumer interests and ensure seamless distribution of LPG across Assam.
