Australian cricketer Cameron Green is expected to start bowling in Kolkata Knight Riders’ upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens on Thursday. Green, who was KKR’s most expensive foreign player at Rs 25.20 crore, initially played as a batter in the team’s opening games.
Cricket Australia had earlier stated that Green, dealing with a lower-back injury, was focusing on batting initially and would resume bowling after about 10-12 days. However, recent reports from ESPNcricinfo suggest that Green is now prepared to bowl in a competitive scenario.
In his first three matches, Green struggled as a batter, scoring only 24 runs. Despite an 18-run performance in the opener against Mumbai Indians, he failed to reach double digits in subsequent matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, getting out for two and four runs, respectively.
Green’s absence from bowling has been felt by KKR, especially with other bowlers like Matheesha Pathirana, Harshit Rana, and Akash Deep sidelined due to injuries. Mustafizur Rahman was also removed from the squad before the tournament, and Varun Chakaravarthy’s poor form has added to KKR’s challenges. The team has faced two defeats and has one point due to a rain-affected match against Punjab Kings.
