Philip Green, the High Commissioner of Australia to India, visited Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar to discuss sports infrastructure, Olympic preparedness, higher education, and renewable energy cooperation. The Chief Minister emphasized Gujarat’s interest in learning from Australia’s sustainable use of Olympic infrastructure, including housing and sports facilities. They also talked about Australia’s post-Games plans for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics infrastructure.
High Commissioner Green shared insights on repurposing Brisbane Olympic facilities for public housing, student accommodation, and various events post the games. He invited a delegation from Gujarat to visit Brisbane for firsthand insights into Olympic preparations and proposed collaboration in advanced sports training. The Chief Minister welcomed the partnership, seeing it as a way to enhance Gujarat’s athletes’ training opportunities for the 2036 Olympic Games.
The discussion also included plans for a comprehensive sports ecosystem at GIFT City through Deakin University, integrating sports science, research, and business programs. High Commissioner Green invited the Chief Minister to Deakin University’s upcoming convocation ceremony in March 2026. They acknowledged the strengthening India-Australia relations under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and Australia’s contributions to Gujarat’s growth in various sectors.
Commending Gujarat’s progress in renewable energy, High Commissioner Green expressed Australia’s support for the state’s transition. He highlighted the solar rooftop training facilities at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, particularly noting the increasing participation of women in these programs. The meeting was attended by officials including Principal Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary Ajay Kumar, and Managing Director Keyur Sampat.
