The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reiterated its request to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for moving Bangladesh’s fixtures in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup to Sri Lanka. In a recent meeting with ICC representatives in Dhaka, the BCB emphasized the need for this relocation citing safety concerns. The board also discussed the possibility of placing Bangladesh in a different group during the tournament.
India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to co-host the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup from February 7. However, the BCB has persistently advocated for relocating its league stage matches to Sri Lanka due to security apprehensions and escalating tensions with India. The request comes in light of recent events, including the release of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2026 season.
BCB officials, including President Md Aminul Islam and Vice Presidents Md Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, along with other representatives, engaged in a constructive dialogue with the ICC delegation led by Gaurav Saxena and Andrew Ephgrave. The discussions centered on the logistical aspects of potentially moving Bangladesh to a different group to address the safety concerns raised by the BCB.
The meeting, characterized by a professional and cordial atmosphere, saw both parties agreeing to continue the dialogue on this matter. Despite logistical challenges, including Saxena’s virtual participation due to visa delays, the BCB and ICC have committed to ongoing discussions to address the concerns raised by Bangladesh regarding the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
