As Bangladesh’s election campaign wrapped up, political parties made final promises before the February 12 national elections. The campaign concluded under the Parliamentary Election Code of Conduct, enforcing a 48-hour electioneering halt before voting. Pre-election opinion polls in Bangladesh have shown conflicting projections, sparking concerns over methodology and potential voter influence.
Three major surveys presented differing views on the electoral landscape, especially regarding the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led alliance and the Jamaat-e-Islami-led bloc. One survey by Eminence Associates for Social Development projected the BNP-led alliance to win around 208 seats, while another by the International Institute of Law and Diplomacy predicted a close contest. A third survey by the Nationalist Research Cell forecasted a significant win for the BNP. Analysts caution that these conflicting projections could impact voter expectations amid heightened political tensions.
