As the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal nears completion, a Bangladeshi national named Monju Rani Saha has been discovered on the draft voter list, as per sources from the election commission. Saha, who holds both an Indian voter ID card and an Aadhaar card, was included in the list during the SIR process. However, upon review by micro-observers, her presence on the list raised eyebrows as she was also found on the Bangladeshi voter list.
Monju Rani Saha, a voter in Barasat of North 24 Parganas district, has addresses listed in both India and Bangladesh. Her Indian Aadhaar card shows her address as Rishi Bankim Sarani in Barasat’s Hridaypur, while her Bangladeshi voter list entry places her in Narayanganj Sadar, Narayanganj District, where she reportedly voted at Narayanganj Girls’ School. An investigation is ongoing to ascertain how her name made its way onto the Indian voter list.
The Election Commission’s guidelines stipulate that Saturday marked the conclusion of SIR hearings. Despite a request for an extension, no decision has been made yet, as the matter is scheduled for a Supreme Court hearing on Monday. The West Bengal government has offered 8,505 Group-B officers for the remaining Special Intensive Revision of the voter list, with a formal communication already sent to the ECI.
