Actors and technicians in the Bengali film and television industry initiated an indefinite strike to protest the demise of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, who passed away during a shoot at Odisha’s Talsari beach. The strike aims to advocate for enhanced safety protocols on sets.
At Bharat Lakshmi Studio in south Kolkata, filming activities were halted, with deserted shooting floors and no technical operations. Directors faced challenges in resuming work due to the absence of technicians, who stood in solidarity with the grieving family.
Later in the day, actors and technicians were set to gather at the studio to join the protest and show support. Notably, artists above 70 years old were excused from participation, although some were expected to attend.
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee’s wife, actress Priyanka Sarkar, was scheduled to join the strike. Renowned figures like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, Dev, and Federation President Swarup Biswas were also anticipated to participate in the protest.
