Members of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana Legislative Council faced a one-day suspension for disrupting the House proceedings and demanding the removal of the revenue minister due to alleged corruption and illegal mining. All 11 BRS MLCs, including Leader of Opposition Madhusudhana Chary, were suspended by Council Chairman G. Sukhender Reddy following a motion by Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The suspension came as the BRS MLCs sought the dismissal of Revenue Minister P. Srinivasa Reddy and the formation of a House Committee or a probe by a sitting High Court judge into the accusations of illegal mining involving Raghava Constructions, a company linked to the minister.
The Opposition legislators, holding placards, encircled the podium and chanted slogans in support of their demands. Minister Sridhar Babu informed the House that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had already announced a CB CID probe into alleged illegal mining dating back to 2014 and urged BRS members to assist in the smooth functioning of the House. Despite repeated appeals by the Council Chairman for the BRS members to return to their seats and cooperate, the Opposition lawmakers continued their protest, leading Minister Sridhar Babu to move a motion for their one-day suspension from the House, which was approved by a voice vote.
Marshals were summoned to escort the suspended MLCs out of the House. Previously, BRS MLCs had protested at Gun Park near the Assembly building, demanding the removal of the revenue minister. Carrying placards and chanting slogans, they marched to the legislature complex. In a similar development, BRS MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for two days for disrupting the House on the same issue, as announced by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar after a motion by Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu was passed by a voice vote. The government rejected the call for a House Committee, with ruling Congress party members arguing that the ongoing CB CID investigation into alleged illegal mining in the state since 2014 rendered a House Committee unnecessary.
