After achieving 200 wickets in the IPL, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer, attributed this milestone to consistent efforts by players over the years. In a recent match against Chennai Super Kings, Bhuvneshwar’s figures of 3-41 contributed to RCB’s 41-run victory, making him the first pace bowler to reach this milestone.
With a total of 202 wickets in 192 innings and an economy rate of 7.7, Bhuvneshwar now ranks second on the list of all-time IPL wicket-takers, following Yuzvendra Chahal. Known for his Purple Cap wins in consecutive seasons (2016, 2017), Bhuvneshwar’s performance reflects his remarkable consistency in a format known for its challenges for bowlers.
The milestone holds special significance for Bhuvneshwar as it was achieved with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the team where his IPL journey commenced in 2009. Expressing his joy, Bhuvneshwar stated, “Reaching 200 wickets is a special milestone, especially since my IPL journey began with RCB. It feels like a full-circle moment for me.”
Reflecting on his bowling strategy, Bhuvneshwar emphasized that achieving such milestones requires continuous hard work and adaptation to changing conditions. Despite the format being considered favorable to batsmen, bowlers like him have successfully made an impact by constantly innovating and challenging opponents.
Discussing the recent victory against CSK, Bhuvneshwar highlighted the challenges posed by the playing surface and how the team’s adherence to planned strategies led to success. He commended the bowling unit’s unity in executing game plans effectively, especially in preparing for specific opponents, showcasing their ability to defend totals even on challenging grounds.
