A session in the Bihar Legislative Council saw discussions between the ruling and Opposition parties on various public interest issues. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLC Saurav Kumar criticized the slow progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Bihar, highlighting that out of a target of 12.20 lakh houses, only around 2.85 lakh have been built, leaving over 9 lakh pending.
Saurav Kumar attributed the construction delays to the non-release of funds by the Central government over the past five months. He also mentioned issues with the direct fund transfer mechanism, causing payment delays to beneficiaries.
In response, Rural Development Minister Shrawon Kumar assured coordination between the state and Central governments to expedite pending house constructions and ensure timely payments. Despite the assurance, Saurav Kumar emphasized the prolonged delay, prompting the minister to reiterate the commitment to swift completion.
Janata Dal (United) MLC Neeraj Kumar raised concerns about the timeline for the Aamas–Darbhanga expressway construction, to which the government pledged to resolve land acquisition issues promptly for expedited progress.
RJD MLC Kumar Nagendra highlighted safety concerns at Beladih Neemchak on National Highway 22 in Gaya district due to the absence of an underpass, leading Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal to announce plans for constructing an underpass pending NHAI approval. Kumar Nagendra appreciated the government’s attention, expressing hope for a timely resolution.
