Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council, Awadhesh Narain Singh, expressed deep emotion on Monday after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) position. Singh mentioned meeting Kumar earlier in the day, where Kumar clearly communicated his decision to resign. Subsequently, MLC Sanjay Gandhi represented Kumar at the Council to formalize the resignation process.
Singh confirmed the acceptance of Kumar’s resignation and the initiation of procedures to declare the seat vacant. He also mentioned the summoning of the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in this regard. Reflecting on his long association with Kumar, Singh praised him as a composed leader with a significant impact on Bihar’s development.
Singh highlighted Kumar’s transformative contribution to Bihar’s progress, noting his role in shaping the state’s identity as a developing region. He emphasized Kumar’s inclusive leadership style, which garnered widespread respect. Bihar Water Resource Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary described Kumar’s departure as an “irreparable loss” for the state’s politics and governance, acknowledging his significant influence.
Rural Work Minister Ashok Chaudhary expressed that Kumar’s absence would be deeply felt in the legislative House. He recalled Kumar’s guidance, strictness when necessary, and his mentorship of ministers, all of which will be missed. As Kumar prepares for the transition to the Rajya Sabha, his resignation marks the end of an era in Bihar’s legislative politics, signaling a new phase at the national level.
