The Bihar Department of Mines and Geology reported a total revenue of Rs 3,592.60 crore in the financial year 2025-26, showing an increase of Rs 56.39 crore from the previous fiscal year. Deputy Chief Minister and Mines and Geology Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, speaking in Patna, stated that the department is progressing towards its revenue target of Rs 3,850 crore. Revenue had risen from Rs 3,536.21 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 3,592.60 crore in 2025-26 despite challenges like the surrender of 78 sand mining sites, causing an estimated revenue loss of around Rs 600 crore.
The revenue from executing departments decreased during the year, dropping from Rs 511 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 369 crore in 2025-26, resulting in a shortfall of about Rs 150 crore. Due to technical reasons, the department could not collect Rs 309 crore from various agencies by the end of the financial year on March 31, 2026. However, pending dues from entities like the Railways, Rural Works Department, CPWD, and Patna Metro are expected to be recovered soon, potentially pushing the total revenue past Rs 3,800 crore.
Minister Sinha highlighted that 21 districts surpassed their revenue targets, commending officials and staff for their efforts. He announced strict measures, stating that companies surrendering sand mining leases will be disqualified from future tenders. The surrender of 78 sand mining sites was linked to actions against overloading and illegal mining. Furthermore, fresh tenders have been issued for 12 sand mining sites, and recipients of the “Bihari Mining Warrior Award” received Rs 4.90 lakh in total for their contributions.
Looking forward, the department aims to grant stone mining leases in 30 blocks to enhance revenue, reduce reliance on imports from other states, and create job opportunities within Bihar.
