Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal has strongly criticized the recent killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, expressing worry about the safety of minorities in the neighboring country. Jaiswal emphasized the need for Bangladesh to enhance its security measures, stating that acts of violence in the name of religion will not be accepted by India or the global community.
The incident, which took place in the Jessore district of Bangladesh, involved the murder of a Hindu man in broad daylight, raising concerns about law and order in the region. The victim, identified as Rana Pratap Bairagi, was fatally shot by unknown assailants while he was at the Kapalia market in Monirampur Upazila.
Rana Pratap Bairagi, a 45-year-old resident of Arua village in Keshabpur, was attacked while carrying out his regular activities at the market, leading to his immediate death. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants opened fire on him suddenly, causing the tragic incident.
The Monirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Rajiullah Khan, and his team promptly responded to the scene to manage the situation. The body of the deceased was taken for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Authorities are currently investigating the case, with efforts underway to identify the attackers. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and police raids are being conducted to apprehend those responsible for the killing. The incident is part of a series of violent acts targeting Hindu community members in Bangladesh in recent times.
In the past, similar violent incidents have occurred, including the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh in December 2025, and attacks on individuals like Bajendra Biswas, Amrit Mandal, and Khokon Das in Shariatpur last year. Concerns have been raised by experts and human rights groups regarding the rise of radical elements in Bangladesh following political changes, leading to a deterioration in law and order and alleged misuse of blasphemy accusations against minorities.
