The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the Congress party for engaging in divisive politics, following comments made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge that sparked a protest by members of the Gujarati community in Delhi. The protesters gathered outside the Congress national headquarters, demanding a public apology from senior Congress leaders. This demonstration was a response to Kharge’s remarks during an election rally in Kerala, where he made comments perceived as derogatory towards Gujaratis.
The BJP leaders strongly condemned Kharge’s statement, describing it as disrespectful towards the people of Gujarat. BJP state co-spokesperson Dhaval Patel expressed that the remarks had caused widespread anger among Gujaratis, leading to protests both in Gujarat and outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi. Patel accused the Congress of pursuing a divisive agenda by targeting different states and emphasized that the people of Gujarat would not be swayed by such tactics.
Patel highlighted previous instances where Congress leaders allegedly made derogatory remarks about Gujaratis, including references by Rahul Gandhi and other opposition figures. He pointed out a pattern of disparaging comments aimed at the state and its people, indicating a deep-rooted animosity within the opposition. Patel underscored the significant contributions of Gujaratis to various fields and reiterated that the protests would persist until an apology was issued by the concerned Congress leaders.
