The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has selected former Gujarat minister Pradipsinh Jadeja to lead the upcoming by-election in the Umreth Assembly constituency in Anand district. Jadeja, a state special invitee member and ex-minister, will serve as the constituency’s in-charge. Hasmukh Patel, a former Anand District Panchayat president, has been named co-in-charge.
The appointments signal the BJP’s organizational groundwork for the by-election, which was triggered by the recent passing of BJP MLA Govind Parmar. Scheduled for April 23, with vote counting on May 4, the bypoll necessitated the party’s swift actions. Umreth, an unreserved seat in Anand district and part of the Anand Lok Sabha constituency, holds significance in Gujarat’s political landscape.
In the previous 2022 Assembly election, BJP’s Parmar secured a substantial victory margin of over 26,000 votes in Umreth, highlighting the party’s stronghold in the region. Meanwhile, the Congress has kickstarted its candidate selection process by deploying observers to evaluate potential candidates. The four appointed observers are currently assessing applicants’ suitability for the electoral battle.
With administrative preparations underway and over 2.4 lakh registered voters expected to participate, the by-election is poised to witness a competitive race involving major parties like BJP, Congress, AAP, and NCP (Ajit Pawar). As parties gear up for the impending polling, the political landscape in Umreth is evolving rapidly.
