BJP candidates in Goalpara, Assam, expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his visit before the April 9 Assembly election. Tankeshwar Rabha, contesting from Dudhnoi, highlighted the issue of illegal infiltration and called for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He emphasized the importance of UCC due to illegal infiltrators affecting the tribal population in Goalpara.
Union Home Minister Shah, addressing a public gathering in Dudhnoi, emphasized the need to address illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. Rabha praised Shah’s visit, stating it was a significant moment for the region to receive guidance from the Union Home Minister. He also criticized the incumbent Congress MP for alleged inaction in the district over the past five years.
Rabha further mentioned that Shah clarified that the UCC would not apply to tribal people. He accused the Congress of not supporting the tribal population and allowing illegal infiltrators to encroach on tribal lands. Shah, in his rally, accused the Congress of turning Assam into a hub for infiltrators and pledged to address the issue if given five more years in power.
The BJP candidates expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the upcoming state polls. Pabitra Rabha, contesting from Goalpara West, referred to Amit Shah as “Chanakya” in Indian politics and appreciated his guidance. He predicted a strong performance by the BJP in the Assam Assembly election, stating that the Congress would secure fewer than 20 seats.
