Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are set to convene a significant meeting with MLAs from Manipur and its NDA allies in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting aims to address crucial issues concerning the state, with a notable presence of BJP and supporting party MLAs in New Delhi already or en route. Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Manipur BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi are among those accompanying the party MLAs.
Before departing from Imphal to New Delhi, Sharda Devi mentioned that the Central BJP leadership has summoned all NDA MLAs to discuss various state-related matters. The discussions are anticipated to include the topic of government formation, as expressed by Sharda Devi to the media. Former Chief Minister Biren Singh expressed optimism, noting that the invitation extended to all NDA allies’ MLAs for the meeting hints at a positive outcome.
The President’s Rule was enforced in Manipur on February 13 last year, shortly after Biren Singh’s resignation as Chief Minister. Scheduled to conclude on February 12, the President’s Rule has left the 60-member Manipur Assembly under suspended animation until 2027. Following this development, senior Central leaders, including BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh and the party’s Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra, engaged in a series of meetings with Manipur MLAs in New Delhi and Imphal.
In a previous instance on December 14 last year, the Manipur BJP Legislature Party gathered at the party headquarters in New Delhi to deliberate on the peace process and other critical issues concerning the state. The meeting, attended by over 34 BJP MLAs, featured former Chief Minister Biren Singh, State Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, B.L. Santhosh, Sambit Patra, and Manipur BJP President Sharda Devi.
