Left-wing student groups at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, drawing criticism from the BJP. BJP leaders expressed concern over turning educational campuses into centers of unrest, emphasizing that such actions do not benefit anyone. The government vowed to take strict legal action against those involved in such activities to maintain peace and order on campuses.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam denounced the slogans calling for the breaking of the nation, highlighting the lack of humanity and respect for Indian values in such actions. He criticized the Opposition and Congress for allegedly supporting elements that propagate anti-national sentiments. BJP spokespersons emphasized the need to identify and address disruptive elements within the educational institutions to uphold national unity and integrity.
The BJP leaders condemned the slogans raised at JNU, labeling the individuals as part of an ‘anti-national urban Naxal gang’ aiming to divide the country. They expressed strong opposition to mindsets seeking to disrupt national unity, citing recent Supreme Court judgments against individuals promoting such ideologies. BJP leaders called for stringent punishment for those threatening the nation’s security and unity, urging judicial intervention to address such anti-national elements effectively.
The incident occurred following the Supreme Court’s denial of bail to former JNU students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots case. About 30 to 40 students affiliated with various student associations staged a protest at the JNU campus, chanting anti-government slogans. The BJP leaders reiterated their stance against any activities that undermine the country’s integrity and called for unity and respect for national values.
