The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Congress for what it perceives as divisive and abusive politics following reported comments by Congress leaders about Gujaratis. BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla condemned Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s remarks on Gujaratis, stating that such statements are indicative of a larger trend within the party. Poonawalla accused the Congress of engaging in a deliberate strategy of spreading lies and inciting divisions.
He further questioned whether the Gujarat Congress unit supported such comments and accused the Congress of resorting to abusing people and creating rifts between states and communities whenever faced with electoral defeats. Poonawalla emphasized that this behavior reflects the Congress’s negative stance towards Gujarat, labeling the party as “anti-Gujarat.”
In addition, BJP leader Rohan Gupta joined in the criticism, alleging that Congress leaders have a habit of disrespecting Gujarat to advance their political agenda. Poonawalla also took aim at Congress leader Husain Dalwai, asserting that insulting the public has become a characteristic of the Congress party. He highlighted previous instances where Congress leaders had denigrated voters who supported the BJP, portraying a consistent lack of respect towards the electorate.
Drawing a contrast with the BJP’s approach, Poonawalla highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP prioritize the public, viewing them as supreme. He emphasized the BJP’s belief in serving the people and treating them with reverence, in contrast to what he described as the Congress’s elitist and disrespectful attitude towards voters.
