The BJP strongly criticized the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government for its handling of a brutal rape and murder case involving a minor girl in the Bishnugarh area of Hazaribagh district. The party announced plans for a state-wide bandh on April 3 if the culprits, dubbed in the case as the ‘Hazaribagh Nirbhaya incident,’ are not apprehended within two days. BJP workers are set to hold torchlight processions on April 2 across Jharkhand in protest.
Alleging a breakdown of law and order in the state, BJP State President Aditya Sahu accused the current government of allowing a parallel system run by criminals to thrive. The party described the crime in Bishnugarh as “rarest of the rare” due to its extreme brutality, criticizing the Chief Minister’s silence on the matter even after several days.
The BJP, joined by local residents, organized a ‘Hazaribagh Bandh’ to protest the incident, leading to demonstrations in various areas including Hazaribagh city and the Bishnugarh block headquarters. The protesters demanded swift action and the immediate arrest of the accused, resulting in the closure of markets and disruption of normal life in several localities.
