Ridiculing the Congress-led government in Karnataka, BJP’s Tejasvi Surya criticized the decision to negotiate IPL tickets for legislators. Eventually, settling for three tickets to watch Royal Challengers Bengaluru matches, Surya sarcastically called it the government’s biggest achievement. He suggested the government’s negotiation skills could be better utilized in resolving international conflicts.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the resolution of the ticket allocation issue for IPL matches after discussions with various stakeholders. The revised quota now provides three tickets for MLAs and MPs for IPL matches, down from the earlier four. Additionally, two complimentary tickets will be offered for international matches, with the option to purchase more.
Shivakumar highlighted that the matter has been settled following discussions with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, KSCA, and DNA Event Management Company. He mentioned that if MLAs do not require tickets, they can submit a letter. Shivakumar also noted that compared to other states, Karnataka has less government interference in ticket allocations.
The issue of IPL tickets for Karnataka MLAs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was raised in the Assembly, prompting discussions on setting a clear policy. Speaker U.T. Khader recommended issuing at least four tickets to each MLA and ensuring they are treated respectfully, a suggestion supported by legislators.
