Opposition BJP MLAs caused chaos in the J&K Legislative Assembly by demanding an apology from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for alleged unparliamentary remarks. The disruption occurred after the BJP members walked out of the House and then re-entered at the end of the Question Hour.
The BJP legislators insisted that the Chief Minister apologize and began chanting slogans against the government. Despite their protests, the Speaker stated that the issue could not be raised again after the initial walkout. The Speaker also decided that the BJP’s protest would not be recorded in the House proceedings.
Later, BJP members staged a sit-in protest in the Well of the House. The commotion began when BJP’s Sham Lal Sharma asked the Chief Minister to apologize, highlighting the unprecedented nature of the incident in the history of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Health Minister Sakeena Itoo accused BJP members of using unparliamentary language and spreading falsehoods in the House. The situation escalated as the Leader of the Opposition, BJP MLA Sunil Sharma, led a walkout, refusing to allow the proceedings to continue until an apology was issued.
