The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has written to the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer seeking the removal of three Kolkata Police officers – Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas, Inspector-in-Charge Bijitaswa Routh, and Sub-Inspector Rahul Amin Ali Shah. The BJP alleges that these officers have shown bias towards Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling TMC.
The BJP has submitted a video to the State CEO office as evidence of the officers’ alleged partisan behavior. Complaints against Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas were presented to the Election Commission of India on March 9, but no action has been taken so far.
The BJP emphasized the importance of maintaining the neutrality of officials involved in the electoral process, especially those responsible for law and order. They requested the immediate transfer of the mentioned officers out of West Bengal until the electoral process concludes to uphold the integrity of the elections.
The Trinamool Congress has also raised concerns about the proximity of the Returning Officer for the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency to BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari. They have urged the Chief Electoral Officer to remove the Returning Officer to ensure fairness in the electoral process.
