BJP Tamil Nadu spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Madurai is significant ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Prasad criticized the ruling DMK government, accusing it of increasing public debt, worsening law and order, and widespread corruption. He claimed that Tamil Nadu is facing a severe financial crisis and that many welfare promises by the DMK remain unfulfilled.
Prime Minister Modi is set to visit Madurai on March 1 to inaugurate a new building at AIIMS Madurai. Additionally, he will address a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) public rally at Mandela Nagar, seen as a crucial mobilization effort by BJP leaders before the elections. The BJP, in alliance with AIADMK, aims to strengthen its campaign narrative and organizational reach during this visit.
Prasad also raised concerns about the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department’s functioning, criticizing its administration and mentioning State Minister P.K. Sekar Babu. He alleged irregularities in temple administration and accused the state government of political interference in religious matters, citing issues at the Thiruparankundram Temple’s Karthigai Deepam festival.
The BJP spokesperson further criticized the state-run liquor retailer, TASMAC, claiming that liquor sales have negatively impacted families, especially women, leading to social and economic distress. He accused the DMK of focusing on financial assistance schemes for political support without addressing broader governance challenges. Prasad called for a “double-engine” government, emphasizing the leadership of PM Modi at the Centre and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami in Tamil Nadu for economic growth and improved governance.
