The BJP has called for decisive action from the Election Commission of India following vandalism at block development officers’ offices in two West Bengal districts on January 14-15. The party’s West Bengal unit emphasized the need for smooth submission of Form-7 applications at hearing centers for claims and objections on the draft voters’ list. The incidents occurred at Farakka in Murshidabad and Chakulia in North Dinajpur, with the ruling Trinamool Congress leaders being accused of the attacks.

BJP’s Information Technology Cell Chief, Amit Malviya, highlighted the need for the Election Commission to address the lawlessness under the ruling Trinamool. Malviya stressed the importance of taking decisive action to deter such acts of destruction, labeling them as planned incidents in sensitive areas. The state president of BJP, Samik Bhattacharya, questioned the justification of SIR unless genuine Form-7 applications are submitted during the hearing session for the deletion of names from the final voters’ list.

Referring to the ruling Trinamool Congress’s alleged intentions, Bhattacharya raised concerns about retaining names of deceased, shifted, duplicate, and untraceable voters in the final voters’ list. He urged the Commission to ensure a smooth submission process for Form-7 applications and suggested that the Chief Election Commissioner should personally review the situation in West Bengal if needed.
