BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressed his delight as senior advocate and former Punjab Leader of Opposition H.S. Phoolka joined the party. Chugh emphasized Phoolka’s extensive four-decade fight for justice for the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims and his pivotal role in ensuring accountability for numerous wrongdoers.
Chugh highlighted the BJP’s unique stance in advocating for the riot victims during the tragic events of 1984, contrasting it with other political entities. He credited leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Lal Khurana for nationalizing the issue while acknowledging Phoolka’s persistent legal efforts.
Following his decision to join the BJP, Phoolka cited his 40-year pursuit of justice for the 1984 victims and praised the party’s consistent support throughout his struggle. He briefly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party but opted to disengage due to disagreements with its operational methods.
Phoolka pointed out the deteriorating law and order situation, escalating crime rates, and drug-related challenges in Punjab as factors motivating his return to politics. He expressed confidence in the BJP as the optimal platform to serve Punjab, given these circumstances.
Chugh commended Phoolka’s integrity and lifelong dedication, considering him an inspirational figure not only for the Sikh community but for the entire nation. He anticipated that Phoolka’s experience and unwavering commitment would bolster Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a progressive India, particularly in Punjab.
Expressing dismay over the vandalism of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statues and attacks on Dalit families in Punjab, Chugh condemned these incidents as regrettable. He raised concerns about governance and accountability, urging swift and stringent action against the perpetrators. Chugh criticized the AAP government’s silence on these matters, emphasizing the BJP’s unwavering stance on justice, respect, and safeguarding all societal segments.
