Botad district in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region is becoming a significant religious tourism spot, drawing devotees and tourists from various parts of India and beyond.
The state government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched multiple projects to enhance infrastructure and connectivity at key pilgrimage sites in the district. Sites like Sarangpur’s Shri Kashtabhanjan Hanuman Temple, Paliyad’s Vihaldham, and Gadhada’s Swaminarayan Temple have benefited from these initiatives.
The Shri Kashtabhanjan Hanuman Temple in Sarangpur, unique for its veneration of Hanuman as the primary deity within the Swaminarayan sect, has gained prominence with a new 54-foot statue, attracting devotees globally.
Vihaldham in Paliyad, known as the ascetic land of Sant Shiromani Visaman Bapu, and the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Gadhada, where Lord Swaminarayan consecrated the idols in 1828, also hold significant historical and spiritual importance.
Efforts by the government to improve facilities and connectivity not only make pilgrimages more accessible but also create job opportunities for locals, benefiting businesses in places like Gadhada, Paliyad, and Sarangpur.
Botad district, particularly significant for followers of the Swaminarayan sect, has seen increased spiritual importance with the establishment of BAPS guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s shrine in Sarangpur after his passing in 2016. The district’s blend of faith, spiritual legacy, and development is establishing it as a prominent destination for religious travelers, showcasing its role in preserving Saurashtra’s saintly traditions.
