Bridging Worlds: PM Modi Launches Pravasi Bharatiya Express to Connect Diaspora to Indian Heritage
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at strengthening the bond between India and its global diaspora—the Pravasi Bharatiya Express. This unique tourist train, launched under the Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana, was flagged off virtually during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention held in Bhubaneswar. The event marks a historical effort to connect Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) with the richness of India’s heritage.
The launch date, January 9, is deeply symbolic, commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India in 1915—a pivotal moment in the nation’s fight for independence. This train embodies the spirit of the Indian diaspora’s connection to their homeland, providing them with a cultural and spiritual experience like no other.
An Exclusive Journey to Rediscover Indian Roots
Designed to accommodate 156 passengers, the Pravasi Bharatiya Express offers a luxurious 3-week exploration of India’s renowned cultural and spiritual landmarks. The journey spans historic destinations such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mahabalipuram, Rameswaram, Agra, and more, immersing participants in India’s diverse traditions and history.
Passengers are promised comfort and cultural enrichment with accommodations equivalent to 4-star facilities. Stops at iconic sites, from the spiritual heart of Rameswaram to the architectural marvel of the Taj Mahal, ensure a memorable journey into India’s essence.
Making Heritage Accessible
What sets this initiative apart is its inclusivity. The Indian government will fully sponsor travel expenses, including lodging, meals, and 90% of the airfare from participants’ home countries. This thoughtful subsidy allows even economically disadvantaged members of the diaspora to reconnect with their roots.
Fostering Global Connections
More than just a tour, the Pravasi Bharatiya Express serves as a bridge to unite the global Indian community. By fostering pride, belonging, and emotional ties, the initiative celebrates the shared identity and cultural heritage of millions of Indians living abroad.
This project underscores India’s commitment to embracing its diaspora as an integral part of its cultural fabric while offering them an unforgettable glimpse into the nation’s soul.
