A devastating incident unfolded in Vikaspuri, West Delhi, where a bus helper named Sunil (25) lost his life in a fire that erupted inside a parked bus. Sunil, who was sleeping in the bus, is believed to have ignited an incense stick to ward off mosquitoes, leading to the fire outbreak. The Delhi Fire Service was alerted about the fire around 12.35 a.m., prompting a swift response with fire tenders dispatched to the scene.
The situation drew attention when onlookers spotted thick smoke and flames billowing from the bus. A distressing video circulating on social media captures the bus consumed by flames, with the fire rapidly spreading. Tragically, due to the ferocity of the blaze, Sunil was unable to escape and remained trapped inside. Local residents promptly notified the authorities, prompting the arrival of police and firefighters.
Firefighters worked diligently to contain the flames, eventually succeeding in extinguishing the fire. Subsequently, Sunil’s charred body was discovered inside the bus and later taken to a hospital for a post-mortem examination. The bus involved was a privately owned vehicle with a Haryana registration, reportedly only 28 days old, leaving the owner shocked by the tragic turn of events.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the fire’s exact cause, exploring whether it stemmed solely from the incense stick or if other factors such as electrical faults or fuel-related issues were involved. The inquiry is ongoing, with further details pending as the investigation progresses.
On a separate note, on February 6, a fire incident occurred at an NDMC-administered ground near Safdarjung airport, as reported by the Delhi Fire Service. Additionally, a tragic fire incident on January 7 claimed the lives of a DMRC employee, his wife, and their daughter in a fire at a DMRC-allotted flat in Mukundpur, north-west Delhi.
