A single-judge Bench of the Calcutta High Court has granted conditional permission for the BJP’s two-day ‘Parivartan Yatra’ scheduled for March 1 and March 2. The yatra will commence from nine different locations in West Bengal as part of the preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
The West Bengal BJP, after being denied police permission for the yatra, sought intervention from the Calcutta High Court’s single-judge Bench of Justice Suvra Ghosh. Following a hearing on Friday, Justice Ghosh approved the program with certain conditions.
Each of the nine rallies starting from different locations is instructed not to exceed 1,000 participants, and the state police have been directed to ensure no law and order issues arise during the rallies. Additionally, the rallies are scheduled between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
State BJP sources revealed that the rallies from the nine locations will be conducted in phases on March 1 and March 2, with a break on March 3 and March 4 due to the ‘Dol Yatra’ and ‘Holi’ festivals. The yatra will resume on March 5, covering all 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal.
Several prominent central BJP leaders, including Union Ministers and party officials, are expected to participate in the yatra. Notable figures include Amit Shah, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nitin Gadkari, and Smriti Irani. The yatra will culminate with a public rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to address the gathering, although the specific date is yet to be confirmed.
