Canada won the toss and chose to bat against New Zealand in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Group D match at MA Chidambaram Stadium. New Zealand made two changes to their lineup due to Mitchell Santner’s illness and Lockie Ferguson’s departure for the birth of his first child. Canada’s captain, Dilpreet Bajwa, expressed confidence in the pitch, emphasizing the importance of setting a target to defend. He mentioned a change in their lineup with Shivam Sharma replacing Kaleem Sana due to injury.

New Zealand’s stand-in captain, Michael Bracewell, shared that Santner’s health was a concern, and Ferguson would soon return after his baby’s birth. Kyle Jamieson and Cole McConchie were brought in as replacements. Bracewell highlighted the team’s familiarity with Chennai’s conditions and their readiness to adapt during the game. Both teams were prepared for the challenges ahead in the match.

The playing XIs for the match were announced with Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, and others representing New Zealand, while Canada’s lineup included players like Yuvraj Samra and Saad Bin Zafar. The captains were optimistic about their respective teams’ performances and strategies for the game, considering the conditions and the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses.
