The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assumed control of the Ankita Bhandari murder case, with its Delhi-based Special Crime Branch initiating a probe against an unidentified VIP. Two CBI members have arrived in Uttarakhand to delve into the alleged VIP connection to the young girl’s murder.
The case gained prominence following the emergence of viral audio clips and videos implicating former BJP legislator Suresh Rathore and his purported wife, Urmila Sanawar. Sanawar, in a Facebook Live session, hinted at the involvement of a VIP in the crime, sparking fresh controversy.
These revelations have stirred political tensions, prompting Opposition parties and various groups to demand a CBI investigation. The Uttarakhand government, responding to mounting pressure and public outcry, swiftly recommended a CBI probe on January 9, emphasizing the commitment to uncovering the truth without bias.
Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old receptionist, was tragically murdered in 2022 while working at the Vanantra Resort. Her body was discovered in the Chilla Shakti Canal a week after the incident. A thorough investigation led to the conviction of Pulkit Arya, the resort owner, along with accomplices Saurabh Bhaskar and Ankit Gupta, who received life sentences for their involvement in the crime.
