The Centre revealed a significant restructuring of senior bureaucrats, appointing new Secretaries to lead various ministries and departments. Chanchal Kumar, an IAS officer from Bihar, will now head the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, swapping roles with Sanjay Jaju. Sanjay Lohiya, previously in the Ministry of Mines, has been named Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, replacing Nagaraju Maddirala, who is set to retire in 2026.
Bhuvnesh Kumar, a UP cadre IAS officer, has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, succeeding Srivatsa Krishna, who will now lead the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Nivedita Shukla Verma, the former Secretary of the Department of Chemicals and Petro-Chemicals, has been replaced by Tejveer Singh. Additionally, Narendra Bhooshan is now the Secretary of the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development.
Rohit Kansal, currently serving in the Ministry of Textiles, will take over as Secretary of the Department of Rural Development, Ministry of Rural Development. Bharat Harbanslal Khera has been appointed Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Abhishek Singh will now lead the National Testing Agency, Ministry of Education.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also approved the promotion of Sanjay Rastogi and Sajjan Singh Yadav to the position of Special Secretary. Rastogi, from Odisha cadre, is the Director General of the National Archives of India, while Yadav, from AGMUT cadre, serves as Additional Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.
