China’s Zheng Qinwen has pulled out of the upcoming WTA 500 event in Stuttgart citing an injury, as confirmed by tournament organizers. The Stuttgart Open, scheduled from April 13 to 19, will witness the participation of top-ranked players from across the globe.
This withdrawal means that Zheng’s clay-court debut for the 2026 season will be postponed. Alexandra Eala from the Philippines, currently ranked 46th in the world, will step in to replace Zheng in the main draw, as reported by Xinhua. The Stuttgart Open organizers expressed their well wishes for Zheng’s swift recovery and expressed hopes to see her back on the court soon.
Zheng’s most recent tournament appearance was at the WTA 1000 Miami Open in March, where she faced a defeat against world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round, missing out on a spot in the quarterfinals. The Stuttgart Open, also known as the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, has transitioned from indoor hard courts to indoor clay courts since 2009 and is hosted at the state-of-the-art Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.
With a total commitment of $1,206,446, the event will feature 28 direct entries in the singles main draw and 16 teams in the doubles draw. Notable players like Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff, among others, are set to participate in this year’s tournament.
