A city court has placed a suspended Assistant Commissioner from the Endowments Department in police custody for two days due to a disproportionate assets case. Kalingiri Shanti, who was arrested after raids revealed assets valued at Rs 1.37 crore, is currently held in Vijayawada district jail. The court permitted her to be questioned on April 15 and 16.
Shanti, arrested on April 7 following raids at her associated locations, sought permission to meet her young son. The court, after hearing arguments, scheduled a decision for April 16. During the 10-hour raids, officials discovered various assets, including a residential flat, gold ornaments, silver articles, cash, and vehicles.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau initiated a Disproportionate Assets case against the Assistant Commissioner under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Subsequently, she was placed in judicial custody until April 21. The government suspended her after the arrest, marking her second suspension in two years. Shanti had joined as Assistant Commissioner in 2020 through the Andhra Pradesh State Public Service Commission.
