Several individuals, including media and police personnel, sustained injuries in a violent clash between workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress. The altercation took place during a state-wide protest organized by the BJP’s Yuva Morcha in Madhya Pradesh to protest against Congress workers’ actions during the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
The clash erupted as BJP workers were demonstrating near the Congress office (Gandhi Bhavan) in Indore. Similar protests were held in Bhopal and other parts of Madhya Pradesh, where BJP workers set fire to effigies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
According to reports, the situation turned violent when BJP’s Yuva Morcha members and Congress workers engaged in stone-pelting. Objects like water bottles, oil bags, stones, oranges, and tomatoes were hurled during the confrontation. Videos circulating on social media captured the clash unfolding in the presence of law enforcement, prompting the deployment of additional forces and water cannons to restore order.
A Sub-Inspector and a media cameraman were among those injured in the stone-pelting incident, requiring medical treatment. Both BJP and Congress accused each other of initiating the violence, with BJP alleging that Congress workers instigated the clash during a peaceful protest and Congress claiming that BJP workers were the aggressors.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari accused BJP workers of launching the attack, resulting in injuries to several Congress members, including the Indore District President. The police in Indore stated that the situation is now under control, with investigations ongoing, and security has been heightened outside Congress offices in Bhopal and Indore.
