The Congress accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP of widespread corruption, unveiling a 20-point chargesheet before the upcoming Assembly polls. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders presented the chargesheet in Guwahati, criticizing the state government for alleged misgovernance and unfulfilled promises.
The document highlighted claims of official machinery misuse and selective eviction drives by the state administration, impacting specific societal segments. The Congress raised concerns over law enforcement practices and administrative decisions under the government’s purview.
Furthermore, the chargesheet implicated the Chief Minister, his Cabinet members, and associates in illicit wealth accumulation, labeling these actions as a betrayal of public trust. The Congress demanded transparency and accountability from the state authorities for these alleged wrongdoings.
The Congress pointed out failures such as the non-fulfillment of promises like granting Scheduled Tribe status to six indigenous communities and the unimplemented wage hike for tea garden laborers. Criticisms were also directed at the government for inadequate progress in various sectors, including employment, welfare, and overall development.
Addressing the media post the chargesheet release, Congress leaders emphasized the need for voters to scrutinize the government’s performance and pledged to make the document a focal point of their election campaign. They underscored discrepancies between promises and actions as highlighted in the chargesheet.
