Advocate Akash More, Secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, has submitted his nomination papers for the Baramati Assembly constituency by-election. He is jointly representing the Congress, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP), and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). More’s main opponent is Sunetra Pawar, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister.
The Congress party made it clear that if the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) decides not to contest, Congress will enter the race. To solidify this decision, Congress State President Harshvardhan Sapkal engaged in discussions with RSP leader Mahadev Jankar and VBA leader Prakash Ambedkar. As a result, a united front was formed, with RSP and VBA extending full support to the Congress candidate.
Under the theme of “The Battle for Democracy, The Path of the Constitution,” the Congress party is banking on Akash More to lead the charge in Baramati. Insiders believe that More’s candidacy, backed by a three-party alliance, will significantly impact the electoral landscape in this prominent constituency.
Akash More emphasized that his candidacy hinges on the government taking action regarding the aircraft accident that caused Ajit Pawar’s death. He stressed the importance of uncovering the truth behind the incident and stated that he would reconsider his nomination only if a formal FIR is filed and a thorough investigation is conducted.
Asserting their fight for democracy and opposition to BJP’s ideology, Akash More highlighted the need for transparency in the Ajit Pawar accident case. He mentioned that his decision to withdraw from the race would depend on the government’s handling of the situation. With a legal background and a family history in politics, More follows in his father’s footsteps, who contested against Ajit Pawar in 2014.
