Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claimed that while campaigning in West Bengal, individuals linked to the Trinamool Congress tried to obstruct him. He criticized the local police for not taking necessary precautions despite being informed beforehand about the potential disturbance.
Chowdhury expressed his stance on the political landscape, emphasizing his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee and ruling out any alliance with the BJP. He highlighted Banerjee’s historical association with the BJP and labeled her as a significant ally of the party.
In response to the incident, West Bengal Police took action against Trinamool Congress members for disrupting Chowdhury’s campaign activities. The confrontation occurred in Berhampore, Murshidabad district, during the election campaign.
The Congress party recently unveiled its list of 284 candidates for the West Bengal Assembly elections. Notable figures like Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Mausam Benazir Noor are among the prominent leaders fielded by the party.
Chowdhury, a five-time Lok Sabha representative from Berhampore, faced defeat in 2024 against Trinamool Congress candidate Yusuf Pathan. The Congress and the Left Front, despite their alliance in the 2021 elections, decided to contest independently in this electoral cycle.
